9/19/2023 0 Comments Github large file storage![]() Transitioning part of your SVN tree to Git is not horribly difficult later on if it becomes necessary. If you're a small group of devs in an office, especially if you tend to come into the office, set up a Subversion server in the office. I might start with vanilla Git, and then edit all my history if I have to move to something else, since I'm not going to break anyone else's clone. If you're only a single developer studio, do what you want, it almost doesn't matter. I'm honestly surprised to hear you say "alternative to Perforce" rather than "alternative to Subversion." Subversion was the go-to open source option before Git, and it still seems like the obvious choice if you want good Windows support, centralized development, and large files.Īnd this is not a new way of doing things - there are several existing ways to make Git handle large files - but it's nice to see Github embrace one. ![]() 180 hrs at 90/hr = 16,200, minus labor = 9,900, minus monthly operating costs = 6-7k, none of this including what you take for itself in salary, congratulations you just had 5 guys working a full month to make 6-7k, with about roughly 2k reserved for taxes for 4-5k in revenue, keep that up and in a year your only making 60k, so any saving you can find to boost that bottom line without impacting productivity is a huge plus. If you're a full studio you can pull 150/hr but have much, much more overhead. Unless they're Pharma companies or people contracting out the work for Pharma or other large companies, clients won't pay more than 85-90/hr to small lesser known dev shops, so say 90/hr. Assuming $35/hr per dev, given the average local rate for junior devs and given my past experience at various local shops within the past 5 years (interns were paid anywhere from 12-20/hr, junior devs approximately 25-35, seniors are salaried for 70-90k with fully paid benefits) that's roughly 6,300 for labor. If you have 5 devs working on a client project for a month, assuming normal hours and no fire drills, that's roughly 180 hours.
